Thurles
Thurles

The development of the 8.5 acre Erin Foods site is something I’ve worked on for over a year and this week is another important milestone in its redevelopment with the submission of a planning application for the site. The application will consist of a new LIDL store, an Advance Technology Unit (ATU) and a new site entrance which will commence the new proposed inner relief road linking the Slievenamon road to the Mill road.

Well done to all involved; the tidy towns committee, the Kennedy family and Pat Burke and John Hogan for all their work on the piece. Claire Byrne

Posted on November 27, 2018 by Alan Kelly

Friends, last night I was a guest on the Claire Byrne Live show on RTÉ 1. I was a guest on the show because I have been campaigning for the drug Pembrolizumab to be made available to all women suffering from Cervical Cancer whose clinicians feel it could help them. Vicky Phelan is on this drug and it has really helped her live a good quality of life. Vicky joined me on the show last night to fight with me to get this drug made available. She did so because the Government as a result of the Cervical Check Scandal earlier this year decided to pay for her treatment and for any other women affected by the scandal. Also on the programme with us was Aine Morgan. She is from Loughrea in Galway. Another lovely lady. She also has Cervical Cancer. She wants to be on the drug and her clinician, Dr Fennelly, the same as Vicky’s, wants he on it. She feels it’s her last chance. The difference is that the Government will not pay for her treatment as she was not part of the audit scandal that Vicky was.

Marion Kelly's Legacy

Posted on November 16, 2018 by Alan Kelly

I have huge admiration for the extended family of Marion Kelly for the way in which they fought over the last year to ensure that the drug that Marion was on - Respreeza - was guaranteed for the remaining 19 Irish people battling the rare disorder Alpha-1 antitripsan deficiency. The provision was confirmed by the HSE and CSL Behring - the manufacturers of the drug on Wednesday this week. The determination the family showed to honour Marion and the solidarity they had for the remaining patients is something that will always stay with me. Here is Marion’s sister Niamh telling their story on Tipp Fm earlier.
