CANVASSING WELL UNDERWAY IN NORTH TIPPERARY

Canvassing is well underway. Leaflets done, new shoes are bought and hands are being shaken. The reception has been overwhelming. People are angry, willing to engage and are looking for something to be optimistic about. That is the message I have been trying to get across on the doorsteps.

Of course this canvassing is very different to the EU elections where we mostly concentrated on events, standing outside shopping centres rather then knocking on doors.

However you get a much better understanding of the people you are hoping to represent by knocking on their door, looking them in the eye and asking for the vote. You get a sense that people are going to think harder about their vote then they ever did before. People are also talking about national issues. Their pay packets are effected and nobody is able to understand why they see this money being poured into banks while everyone is suffering.

These are tough times on many families. People have been treated very badly by the current government. Someone has to step up to the plate and Labour are willing to do that.
