My European Campaign has kicked off and I'm delighted with the reception I'm receiving.

I have always said that I would run the most professional campaign possible and hence the recent advertisements across the constituency and the extensive distribution of my leaflets detailing what I'm standing for and aiming to achieve for my party.

I believe Ireland's future is best guaranteed by playing a full part in Europe. Ireland's open economy is facing a massive challenge and it needs close friends and a ready market for its goods and services. Membershipe of the EU provides us with a huge internal market. The ongoing capacity of Ireland to create and sustain jobs is directly liked to our membership of the EU.

We have also gained from much progressive social legislation in Europe and this needs to continue, whether in the areas of equality, workers or consumers rights. Europe has been a great friend to many Irish people and has been a protector and promoter of the rights of the citizen

A key priortiy of the EU has been balanced regional development - Europe of the regions. Munster and other regions outside of Dublin rightly feel they play second fiddle to the East Coast. This highly cetralised form of government often mitigates against the capacity of the regions to enjoy greater benefits from the regional funds and initiatives driven by Europe.

The changing world points to the need for a strong, cohesive and coherent Europe. For its own sake, I believe Ireland needs to be at the heart of this Union. As an MEP for Munnster I will be a voice for a strong Ireland and a strong Europe.

I believe I can win a seat for the Labour party. There is a goodwill out there towards my party that reflects our view that society and community values are the currency of real value and that individualism and laizze faire economics and supreme capitalism has failed.

I believe that the people of Munster/Ireland South are looking for change and someone new.

I believe they are looking for someone who does not represent the tired old ways of the past and has new ideas and a new outlook.

I believe I am that person and I am looking forward to the campaign.
