Kelly Welcomes Launch of Regional Action Plan for Jobs

Issued : Friday 13 February, 2015

Local TD Alan Kelly, Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government, has welcomed the launch of the Regional Action Plans for Jobs. The aim of the Action Plan for Jobs is to support enterprise growth and job creation in every region of the country. It will provide new funding for enterprise support in the regions and seek to leverage existing funds to target initiatives that enable regions to achieve their full employment potential.

Minister Kelly said “It is hugely important that recovery is felt throughout the entire country not just in our urban centres. This action plan seeks to position our regional areas firmly on that platform. There are eight regional areas, each of which will develop its own action plan.  South Tipperary is included in the South East Region and North Tipperary in the Mid West Region.

“Rural Ireland has a part to play in business development and job creation. The plan is about working with the existing infrastructures and stakeholders that are in place such as our Local Authorities, LEO’s, Public Participation Networks (PPN’s), LCDC’s and of course, the IDA and Enterprise Ireland. It’s a co-ordinated approach allowing local communities, towns and villages to play a key role in developing their local economies.  €250 million will be made available over the next five years to support job creation through enterprise growth in the regions.

"IDA Ireland will roll out a 5-year €150million capital investment programme to help attract more multinational jobs into each region.

"The plan is a statement of the government's intent to recovery in the regions and I look forward to seeing the fruits of investment by the IDA and Enterprise Ireland in every corner of the country.

“I look forward to working closely with the Tanáiste, Joan Burton, TD; and the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, over the coming months to ensure that our regional areas receive the supports necessary to drive economic development and job creation ensuring opportunities for people to live and work in or near their own communities.”
