I have announced funding under the Lough Derg Marketing Strategy Group. I am delighted to annouce that funding has been allocated to a number of projects under the Lough Derg Marketing Strategy Group. I am particularly happy with this as I made sure that the Lough Derg Strategy was launched and I announced €2 million for it in May this year.

€25,000 has been allocated for the Millennium Cross Car Park & Walkway Surfacing. The car park is used by visitors who walk to the cross to see the panoramic views of Lough Derg. Improvement works are required at the car park. Walking surface to improve access along the Lough Derg Way from the Millennium Cross to Tountinna.

€12,500 has been allocated to the Tountinna Amenity Area. Tountinna is the highest point on the Arra Mountains forming part of the Lough Derg Way. The summit offers panoramic views of Lough Derg. The summit will benefit from additional furniture, an interpretive panel and improvements to the walking surface along the route towards the Graves of the Leinstermen. The access road at the summit also requires resurfacing/repair works.

€87,000 has been allocated to Ballina Lakeside Park & Ballina Bridge / Amenity Walkway for the Installation of a swipe card system for the toilet block & shower at the park require  The car park requires resurfacing in order to improve access to the slipway & playground. Investigative works to develop the amenity walkway will take place in 2014.

€85,000 has been allocated to Castlelough Amenity Park. A popular destination with lakeshore access, works are required to finish out the playground at the site.

€11,230 has been allocated to Discovery Point and Trailhead Design at the Lookout, Portroe to finalise designs for a discovery point and trailhead at the lookout in Portroe which will eventually develop the site into tourist attraction for the Lakelands Lough Derg region.

€110,000 has been allocated to improvements to road surfaces at Dromineer for visitors parking & walking at the lakeside area.

This is very positive news for these villages.
