‘I want you as my chief’ will go down as one of the most memorable quotes of the campaign or will it be ‘Sure ill give you a poke’

Eamon Gilmore arrived in Nenagh today following a short trip through Roscrea.

They turned out in their droves to meet the man who they wanted who they wanted to be ‘their chief’

Eamon’s visit gave everyone a fillip. It was a little chaotic as the crowd gathered round him in Arrabawn car park but what effectively evolved into a campaign rally came about.

Gilmore was at his best, condemning the disgraceful cuts forced on ordinary people because of bankers and poor politicians.

He laid out the values of the Labour party and made everyone there proud. We walked through the town, jackets, umbrellas followed by the national media.

Donal Looney came with his army medals declaring 'I want you as my chief Eamon' and after meeting one schoolgoer about facebook we were told 'sure ill give you a poke' Little Aoibhe, my daughter, also made an appearance. She must have been bemused by all of the commotion she will be eight months old in a couple of days. No doubt she wants the campaign to be over and have Daddy back to herself. She will get he way soon enough.

For those few hours, Nenagh was definitely a Labour town. Here is hoping. Roll on February 25th.
