Kelly welcomes agreement on Fr. Scully house

Issued : Monday 9 February, 2015

Environment Minister, Alan Kelly, has welcomed agreement between Dublin City Council and the Catholic Housing Aid Society (CHAS) over Fr. Scully Housing development.

Fr. Scully House is a ā‚¬17 million housing development funded by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government under the (CAS) Capital Assistance Scheme, but had remained untenanted following its refurbishment.
Both Minister Kelly, local TD Joe Costello and Archbishop Martin, met with CHAS before Christmas where it was agreed that the previous 24 tenants of Fr. Scully House could move back in immediately with an agreement to be concluded on the rents shortly after.

Minister Kelly sent officials of his own Department to monitor the negotiations.

ā€œIā€™m glad that common sense prevailed and that rents remain at their original level. To have housing units lying idle in the current environment is simply disgraceful. 76 units for people on the social housing list in Dublin will come on-stream and I trust that Dublin City Council as well as CHAS will make this happen as quickly as possible.ā€

The Department of Environment, Community & Local Government will deal with final account on receipt of it from Dublin City Council.
