KELLY WELCOMES €14.7M GRANT FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA

Local TD and Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government Alan Kelly has welcomed the confirmation that The Atlantic Philanthropies will make grants of €14.7m available to improve the care and wellbeing of people living with dementia in Ireland.

 

Minister Kelly mentioned how “This announcement reinforces this Governments commitment to the effective implementation of the forthcoming National Dementia Strategy. This is aimed at improving the living culture of those with dementia and their families, and will also allow research be carried out in this area.”

 

He also confirmed that “The Department of Health is providing some €1 million in matching funding to support the research element of the collaboration and the HSE is providing matching funding of some €15 million for the three priority areas of intensive home care supports, GP education and training, and dementia awareness”.

 

Concluding Mr Kelly said that this announcement will “benefit many communities around Tipperary. In recent years communities in Tipperary have achieved dementia friendly status and in addition there are many services being provided within the county for people with dementia and their families”.
