POLL RESULTS REFLECT NEW ERA FOR LABOUR
Issued : Monday 14 June, 2010
Munster MEP Alan Kelly has described the latest poll showing Labour as the biggest party in the State for the first time in history as “confirmation of a new era for politics in Ireland”
The Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll published on Friday 11th June saw Labour at 32 per cent (up eight points).
This compared with Fianna Fáil, 17 per cent (down five points), Fine Gael, 28 per cent (down four points), Sinn Féin, 9 per cent (up one point), Green Party, 3 per cent (no change), and Independents/ Others, 11 per cent (no change).
This latest poll comes shortly after the recent Red C/Sunday Business Post Poll showing Labour making large gains.
Kelly said “This is not something that happened overnight, the Labour Party across Ireland and Tipperary has been working hard to establish itself as the leading political party in Ireland.”
“The poll reflects the hard work and effort of everyone associated with the Labour Party from members and volunteers to the elected officials.”
“We are showing steady gains built on solid foundations.”
“Labour are now the only party offering what the Irish public wants, real leadership and fresh ideas.”
“This poll is just the latest indication of the change in the Irish political landscape. We are living in a new era, a time where the Labour Party is offering a viable alternative to the broken administration we are currently faced with.”
“In Eamon Gilmore, we have the most popular leader in the country and the man who is providing leadership to a country crying out for guidance.”
