MEP KELLY HOSTS COMMON AGRICULTURAL POLICY CONFERENCE

Munster MEP Alan Kelly is set to host a major European conference in Thurles on the future of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP).

The conference entitled “Crisis or Opportunity: The future of the Common Agricultural Policy and its impact on rural Ireland” will see a panel of Irish and European experts discuss the future of CAP.

Taking place on Friday March 26th at the Tipperary Institute, Thurles campus, it promises to be the most important event of 2010 in creating a vision for the future of CAP.

MEP Kelly said “The event brings together all the key stakeholders in the CAP process, offering everyone a chance to input their ideas. Come along to the Tipperary Institute and have your say on how CAP reform will affect you.

This is a unique opportunity for people in Munster to reach key influencers on the future of the policy.”

Keynote speaker will be John Bryan, IFA President and the conference will be officially launched by Labour Party Leader, Eamon Gilmore.

Further highlights include Marc Tarabella MEP, Mr Mark Cropper EU Commission Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, Sean Sherlock TD and Dr. Ciaran Lynch.

Two in-depth workshops will take place, discussing the use of CAP to regenerate the rural economy and how CAP is negotiated in Europe – the political climate.

The highly interactive sessions will be chaired by a panel of experts and allow for full interaction between all the stakeholders to give their input on the future of CAP.
