CONSTRUCT AMBULANCE BASES WITHOUT DELAY - KELLY

Issued : Tuesday 2 March, 2010
Areas : Munster, Tipperary

MEP Alan Kelly has described the announcement of new ambulance bases for North Tipperary as “very welcome but long overdue.”

The bases at Nenagh and Thurles will be completed under the capital works programme.

The Munster MEP said “I am delighted we have secured the new ambulance bases for North Tipperary.

As recently as two months ago, I made representations to the HSE on behalf of the ambulance personnel. The conditions they were being forced to work in were simply not acceptable.

The ambulance services provide a vital service to the community often in very difficult situations. They are the backbone of the emergency services and should be equipped with everything they need to provide a service of the highest standard to their local communities.

My only regret is that the ambulance workers were forced to work in such substandard conditions for so long.

I hope the bases are constructed without delay and the workers are not faced with any further setbacks. They have been left waiting in limbo for too long by a Government that has consistently neglected regional services.”
