TIPP WIN A CREDIT TO THE TEAM AND MANAGEMENT
Posted on September 12, 2010 by Alan Kelly
With Liam Sheedy at Homecoming of Tipperary hurling Team in Portroe after All Ireland win
To say I'm a happy Tipperary man after our All Ireland hurling final win would be an understatement in the extreme. I'm absolutely thrilled, for the players, for the management, for Liam Sheedy and all the backroom staff. It was an unbelievable performance where there was no dispute as to who were the better team.
I was quietly confident going into the game that we would do it and despite Kilkenny clawing back to just within a point at half time, I still believed we'd do it. The performance of all the players was at 100% and when Tipp are in that form, with such a young team as well, they are unstoppable. They were so determined to wipe out the memories of last year.

BEST OF LUCK TO LIAM AND TIPP LADS
Posted on September 02, 2010 by Alan Kelly
Best of luck to Liam and all the lads in the final on Sunday. I know we can do it. I can sense a level of determination this year that will bring us home. Kilkenny are a fine team but I think most neutrals will be urging us on. Heading up on Sunday morning and will be staying for the banquet, win, lose or draw. I know they'll win though! C'Mon the Premier

GAA/GPA Agreement
Posted on December 06, 2009 by Alan Kelly
I welcome this week’s development of the GPA/GAA’s interim agreement. After two months of deliberations both the Gaelic Players Associations and the GAA have reached a compromise which may give way to an alliance. This agreement can protect the GAA’s amateur status while also providing recognition to the GPA as a body which can protect and promote the interests of the players. This is something that I have supported as a member of both organisations for some time.

Running Mates – Thanks to Éamonn Coghlan
Posted on June 01, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Managed to secure the number 1 jersey for the Cork City Marathon. Hope that is a good open for Election Day. Éamonn Coghlan came down for the marathon too. Wish I was as fit as he is but there you go, you can’t realistically run an election and be an athlete.
Anyway it was nice to hear his kind words of support for the campaign. We need people with ambition to get things done and to hear Éamonn talk about his own background and how he got through his tough times is inspiring.

Match Day Cheer
Posted on May 31, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Thankfully Tipp came out on top of today’s clash. After a powerful display in the first half the momentum was lost and Cork showed tremendous resolve to come back and were almost successful. They will have a say in where Liam McCarthy goes yet. You can be assured of that. Especially when their preparations were interrupted by the whole strike business.
Anyway the canvassing goes on. Eamon Gilmore along with Ciaran & Kathleen Lynch. We had the balloons, the music but it was nice to spend time on Liberty square meeting and greeting.

Labour brand continuing to attract new voters
Posted on May 18, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Just to say thanks to Peter Clohessy for his words of support for the campaign. It is an honour to have the backing of someone of his calibre and to be promised a vote from it as a Munster fan.
Without knowing Peter’s political views previously, it is an example of the type of new vote Labour is attracting. The response on the street is magnificent and more people have opened up their mind to voting Labour. When you stop people on the street you and ask the question ‘would you consider voting Labour?’ the majority of people are stopping to think. The challenge is now to turn that good will into votes, which I believe is possible.

Election Heating Up Now
Posted on May 04, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Another day, another two counties knocked out on the canvassing trail. The Fair in Kilmallock was busy today as was I and James Heffernan – a fantastic local election candidate. Every Labour candidate across the country now is full of energy, buoyed on by the amazing response on the doorstep and the natural momentum we have gained over the past year. The Labour team is hungry for success and James will deliver I have no doubt. He comes from a strong hurling family and he possesses the same hunger for success that has made the Heffernan name famous.

Can hurling be matched?
Posted on May 03, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Tipp just lost a whirlwind of a match but who can complain? They were taking on one of the greatest sides that ever played hurling and matched them for pace, intensity and a willingness to die for the cause. That’s all any fan can ask for.

Out Munstered by Leinster
Posted on May 02, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Thankfully I held back on booking the trip to Edinburgh. Going on form, Munster should have won this game easily but this was essentially a derby match and as the cliché goes, at a derby, form goes out the window.
The atmosphere at Croke Park was terrific though and credit to both sets of fans. I used the occasion of the match to pick the political brain of Proinsias De Rossa. As we walked about saying hello to friends and fans, I absorbed as much as I could from Labour’s only Irish MEP, a man of equal integrity and ability.

Canvassing The Countryside - Tipp Tour Begins
Posted on April 28, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Canvassing the Countryside: Tipp Tour Begins Most European Candidates do not believe in doing too much canvassing in rural areas. The logic is that you don’t get to meet a sufficient volume of people to justify a visit to small village such as Cappawhite, Rear Cross or Portroe (my home village)
The Alan Kelly cavalcade of cars, jeeps, the ‘Tipp-mobile’ and the music out the speakers managed to cause a bit of a stir in each place. However there is a huge gain, I believe, in getting feedback from rural communities.
