On Friday last I was delighted to visit St Anne's School in Tipperary Town where I raised a green flag. This flag was my first green flag as Minister, it was also the first Green flag for St. Anne’s.  It was great to meet the students and staff at the school.  I have no doubt that the school will be successful in its quest for more green flags.

I was delighted to recently announce that Dr Morris Park, Thurles had been allocated €100,000 through the Government's regional sports capital funding programme. I have always stated my intention to help the Tipperary County Board out in any way I can and this announcement highlights my commitment.

The county board has over seen immense work over the last few years and they deserve huge credit. I am in no doubt that this funding will help to improve the facilities of Dr Morris Park greatly and help create a center of excellence in the future for GAA in TIpperary.

I am pictured here in Thurles last week with County Treasurer Eamon Buckley, Conor O'Mahony, Michael Breen, County Chairman Sean Nugent, Darren Gleeson and County Secretary Tim Floyd.

Best of luck to the lads in the All Ireland on Sunday. Up Tipp!

Tipperary’s economy gets a boost today (Friday, August 29th) with the announcement of 46 new jobs created by Irish energy provider PINERGY in association with local sales management company DSM. The jobs will be formally announced today in DSM’s Tipperary office by the company CEOs, Rugby star Paul O’Connell and myself. The new jobs are in the area of sales and come as PINERGY plans expansion across Tipperary and Limerick. I WELCOME ADVANCEMENTS IN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING LEGISLATION

Posted on August 11, 2014 by Alan Kelly

I am delighted that Minister Ged Nash is working to have legislation on collective bargaining rights enacted by the end of this year. The Bill is currently being drafted with the expectation that the new legislation will be in place by the end of 2014. Once agreed, the legislation will proceed through the Oireachtas during the autumn.

This legislation will significantly strengthen the rights of workers in companies that refuse to engage in collective bargaining while also giving, for the first time, statutory protection to guard against the victimisation of workers in such companies. For employees, it will significantly enhance their ability to negotiate their working conditions. For employers, it will provide certainty in managing their workplaces in the years ahead.

Annual Fall in Live Register for Tipperary

Posted on August 05, 2014 by Alan Kelly

I welcome the further annual fall in the Live Register in July for Tipperary.

The Live Register has fallen by 8.47% in North Tipperary and 8.05% in South Tipperary, with decreases of 8.04% in Nenagh, 8.80% in Roscrea, 8.73% in Thurles.

These are encouraging figures, and show the progress we are making in reducing the numbers of unemployed people in Tipperary.

Labour Ministers have introduced schemes such as JobsPlus and Springboard that are already helping people to move out of long-term unemployment into high-quality training, education and full-time employment.

The recent ESRI report, showing that the gap between rich and poor in Ireland has actually narrowed in recent years, is proof that we have protected social welfare while helping people move into work.
